The Discarded
The discarded is a large photo collage printed onto soft velvet material. Full size is approximately 2 m x 1.5 m. It was made from 300 photos of discarded covid masks taken during lockdown walks and collaged together. Most of the image is black and white with just the masks and various features are left in colour. It created something beautiful from rubbish and captures a moment in time - the two years when the pale blue covid masks were ubiquitous as litter in the streets. It is also a metaphor for the people who were felt to be discarded during that time.
